Abdiadil Hassan the SRS head of security and justice bureau is a convicted criminal

Mustafa Omer the interim president of Somali Region of Ethiopia has appointed Abdiadil Hassan as head of security and justice bureau-  a convicted fraudster who defrauded millions of Birr from Ethiopian Telecommunications Corporation by illegally connecting the telephone line of the company and commercialized it. Abdiadil was caught red handed while commercializing the illegally connected telephone lines by the federal government and was sentenced by Addis Ababa Kangaroo court after he pleaded guilty to all accounts of the crime.

So how can a convicted criminal head the bureau of security and justice?

Abdiadil is replica of Abdi Iley albeit timing is different. Abdi iley would illegally connect electric gridlines and he was arrested for electric power theft. Despite iley’s criminality he was appointed to head the bureau of justice and security where he built his career of being a known butcher and the most feared man in the region and finally landed the highest job in the region- the presidency. Abdiadil Hassan on his part illegally connected the telephones of the Telecommunication Company and he too was arrested and found guilty of fraud and theft of public funds. Then Mustafa Omer appointed Abdiadil Hassan as head of security and justice bureau and he has shown all the hallmarks of Abdi Iley’s anarchy. He has banned all communal meetings and all hotels in the regional capital jigjiga are facing serious financial losses since they are not allowed to rent their conference rooms for public gatherings and important workshops that are not planned by the regional government. He has engaged mass arbitrary arrest on innocent people to create a cloud of fear in the region and abused his position by torturing critiques of the government. The worrisome is Abdiadil Hassan is the likely successor of Mustafa Omer once Mustafa leaves the office since he is the man that gathers intelligence and coordinates with the federal government and built trust in the process with federal security apparatus.

The interim president Mustafa Omer has written numerous articles about good governance, democratic rights, human rights and social justice in the last decade. Regrettably, Mustafa is doing the opposite of the all the principles he cherished and advocated for the in the last decade. He used the connections he built over the years to reach the office of the regional presidency and abuse the power and pilfer the meager funds for developmental projects that were meant to benefit the poor. He came across as a some soul totally clueless and driven by emotions and never guided by policies, reacts to incidents as they break. Mustafa the social media activist has proven to be an emotional wreck, a pathological liar, a charlatan and craven career with no political morality but only hell bent on clinging on power by any means.
